City of Dreams Macau

City of Dreams (新濠天地) is a casino/resort which stands at the bottom of the Cotai Strip directly opposite the Venetian. It incorporates the Hard Rock, Crown Towers and Grand Hyatt hotels (which together make up the four towers surrounding the main casino and retail area – known as the Boulevard).

Venetian Macau

The mighty Venetian (澳門威尼斯人度假村酒店) dominates the lower part of the Cotai strip. Opened in 2007,  it is a 39 story themed casino hotel owned by the American Las Vegas Sands company and obviously styled on Venice and Venetian history.

Carmo Fair (Taipa Old Market)

The Taipa market was constructed by the Macau government on 14th September 1886 at a cost of 800,000 Reis (about MOP1,600) which was split between the Public Works Bureau and the Taipa and Coloane Municipal Commission.

Museum of Taipa and Coloane History

The Museum of Taipa and Coloane History (Museu da História da Taipa e Coloane, 路氹歷史館) is located in Taipa village, housed in what used to be the Island Municipal Council building (and old public administration center). The original building dates from the 1920s, built in the Portuguese style.

The temple is dedicated to Pak Tai (北帝廟, literally ‘Northern Emperor’) who is believed to have the divine power to withstand floods and fire.

Sam Po Temple

This temple was built in 1843, and is is dedicated to Sam Po – a water goddess and third eldest sister of Tin Hau, who is often regarded as the guardian of seafarers (protection against the perils of the sea is a common theme through many of the temples in Macau). ‘Sam Po’ literally means ‘third grandmother’

Church of Our Lady of Carmel

The Church of Our Lady of Carmel (Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, 嘉模聖母堂stands on a small hill on the edge of old Taipa village, between Carmo Fair and the Taipa Houses museum and the landscaped gardens by the lake.
